1767 Chowan County Courthouse

One of the three oldest courthouses in the country today.  This National Historic Landmark was completely restored four years ago. Tours are available.

1870 Mt. Tabor School House and Tabor City Depot Museum

This is an original structure interpreting the rural education in eastern North Carolina. The museum exhibits artifacts and photographs of local war veterans.

Ahoskie Museum

Historical museum located  on the second floor of the Garrett House which  also houses the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce. The museum collects and preserves the history of the Garrett family and the surrounding region.

Attmore-Oliver House Museum

House constructed in 1790. Furnished with 18th and 19th-century antiques. Museum also features a room of Civil War memorabilia and a unique doll collection.

Aurora Fossil Museum

One of the top field trip destinations in eastern NC for school groups. Museum tells the story of the formation of the Coastal Plain from the birth of the Atlantic Ocean. Large collection of fossils allows visitors to discover ocean life from over 15 million years ago. Home of the annual Aurora Fossil Festival.

Bath State Historic Site

Bath is the oldest town in NC. Now celebrating its tri-centennial (300 years). Site features Palmer Marsh House (circa 1751), Bonner House (circa 1830), and the Van Der Veer House (circa 1790). Self-guided tours available which include a free 15-minute video. www.nchistoricsites.org
