01. Carolina Basketball Museum

North Carolina is college basketball country, and the UNC basketball program has contributed more than its share of superstars who became legends. This Museum is truly Blue Heaven for Heels fans. While in Chapel Hill be sure to take in the two sites of Carolina’s greatest basketball moments, the Dean Smith Center and Carmichael Auditorium.

02. Kenan Memorial Stadium

Since the Tar Heels beat Davidson on opening day in 1927, Kenan Memorial Stadium has been home to the UNC football squad. Situated among the Carolina Pines, Kenan Stadium features exciting collegiate action on Saturday afternoons in the fall. The Kenan Football Center is available for tours of memorabilia from the Carolina football legacy.

03. Charlotte Memorial Stadium

The Queen City’s first investment in a major spectator sports arena was completed in 1936 just in time to host a visit from President Franklin Roosevelt. Since then the legendary field has been the scene of countless thrilling high school and collegiate football contests, including the Shrine Bowl for 63 years.

04. Lowe’s Motor Speedway

Ever since 1960, NASCAR’s longest endurance test, the World 600, has been run at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord. The 1.5 mile superspeedway is also home of the sport’s All Star Race. Lowe’s set the standard for track improvements, becoming the first modern superspeedway to feature prime time racing under the lights.

05. Cameron Indoor Stadium

The Cameron Indoor Stadium is a recognized name throughout the basketball world as home of the “Cameron Crazies,” the student cheering section for the Duke University Blue Devils. When Cameron opened in 1940, it was the largest basketball arena south of Philadelphia. Nowadays, with less than 10,000 seats, Cameron is a tough place for any team to win against the always national caliber Blue Devils basketball team.

Bowman Gray Stadium

For more than 50 years now, auto racing fans have been drawn to the quarter-mile oval track at Bowman Gray Stadium to cheer on their favorites and speculate on which of the Modified, Sportsman and Street Stock drivers might become the next Richard Petty, Junior Johnson or Bobby Allison who all competed here. Also hosts exciting Winston-Salem State Rams football contests each fall.

Ernie Shore Field

Ernie Shore Field anchors the Winston-Salem sports and entertainment complex which also encompasses Lawrence Joel Coliseum complex and Wake Forest University’s Groves Stadium. The city-owned facility is current home to the minor league Winston-Salem Warthogs, who are scheduled to move into a new facility.

Historic Durham Athletic Park

This venerable baseball park was the prime location for Kevin Costner's 1988 classic movie “Bull Durham.” Distinguished by its conical tower which serves as a ticket office, the ballpark was built in 1938. Even though the Durham Bulls moved to a new Athletic Park about a mile away, the crack of the bat can still be heard at the DAP during amateur games each season.

NC Baseball Museum

Baseball players who played on the fields of North Carolina and later went on to make their home state proud are honored in the NC Baseball Museum.  Recall the glory days of Catfish Hunter, Gaylord Perry, Enos Slaughter and other greats. Located at Wilson’s Fleming Field, which has hosted such legendary ball players as Ted Williams during its proud history.

Orange County Speedway

Saturday night auto racing can be seen weekly during the season at America’s fastest 3/8-mile track, Orange County Speedway. The historic track’s sweeping turns and side-by-side racing action has lured racing drivers and fans for decades.
